Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc. (DGRI) continues work on the Grand River Public Art Master Plan in collaboration with a consultant team including MIG and CPG.
Public input and feedback from the community and guidance from a steering committee comprised of local art and community leaders has been critical to the effort thus far. The plan, proposed to be completed in the spring of 2025, will guide the creation, placement and preservation of public art along the Grand River, enhancing the vibrancy and cultural fabric of the Grand Rapids region.
The Grand River Corridor holds immense potential as a cultural and recreational destination. Through this initiative, DGRI seeks to ensure that art plays a pivotal role in connecting people to the river and celebrating the diversity of our community.
Join Us at World of Winter on January 25 & 26
DGRI will host special engagement opportunities during World of Winter on January 25 (Fire & Ice event) and 26 (Ice Park & Food Truck Rally event). Interactive displays and activities will be available to gather feedback and spark creative discussions. These contributions will help guide the vision for the future of public art along the Grand River. Attendees that participate in the engagement activities will receive commemorative stickers for their ideas and input (pictured below).
We Need Your Input!
The success of the Grand River Public Art Master Plan depends on authentic voices from the community. DGRI encourages residents, artists and stakeholders to visit the project’s StoryMap website here to learn how to participate and explore detailed information about the planning process.
Take the Community Questionnaire
To ensure everyone has a voice, DGRI has developed a community questionnaire available in both English and Spanish. Share your thoughts, priorities and aspirations for public art along the river. The questionnaire can be accessed online:
Participation will directly shape the Public Art Master Plan, ensuring it reflects the values and creativity of the Grand Rapids community.
“We’re excited to involve the community in shaping the future of art in the Grand River Corridor,” said Kimberly Van Driel, Director of Public Space Management for Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. “This master plan will celebrate our shared stories, spark creative expression and enhance the natural beauty of the river, making it a welcoming and inspiring space for all.”
