The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a funding tool that Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) administers to help catalyze public and private investment in Grand Rapids’ urban core.

To maintain a high level of openness and transparency, the full recording of the live-streamed DDA Board meeting on April 10, 2024, is available on YouTube.

The Board met on this agenda and took the following actions:

Retail Innovation Grant: Big Mini Putt Club

The Board approved funding to support a new Downtown business, Big Mini Putt Club, through the Retail Innovation Grant program. This grant program provides support for rent costs up to 50% over an 18-month term. Big Mini Putt Club will bring a new bar and restaurant entertainment offering to a previously vacant storefront space at 70 Ionia SW.

The Board approved funds not to exceed $49,186 for a Retail Innovation Grant.

Downtown Liquor License: Big Mini Putt Club

The Board approved a resolution for the issuance of a Development District liquor license for Big Mini Putt Club located at 70 Ionia SW.

JustAir Downtown Air Quality Monitoring Support

The Board approved continued support for partnership with JustAir, an air quality monitoring organization that provides real-time air quality data to community members throughout Grand Rapids and other locations throughout Michigan and the US. DGRI originally partnered with JustAir in 2020 to install five air quality monitors Downtown. These monitors provide real time information and alerts to community members related to air quality and safety. Support from the DDA allows for continued operation of the monitors and continued access to the community data dashboard.

The Board approved funds not-to-exceed $33,250 for a two-year extension of the partnership.
