The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is a funding tool that Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) administers to help catalyze public and private investment in Grand Rapids’ urban core.

To maintain a high level of openness and transparency, the full recording of the live-streamed DDA Board meeting on August 14, 2024, is available on YouTube.

The Board met on this agenda and took the following actions:

Holiday Lighting Funding

The Board approved funding for holiday lighting decor Downtown. Funds will be used to replace old or faulty infrastructure throughout multiple corridors Downtown, as well as for a replacement light tunnel at Rosa Parks Circle and a new light tunnel at Monument Park.

The Board approved funds not-to-exceed $80,000 for holiday lighting.

South Division Trash Cans

The Board approved funding for 30 new trash cans on South Division Avenue. Over the last decade, a mix of new and existing infrastructure has been used for trash receptacles in the corridor. DGRI staff worked with the Heartside Business Association and the Heartside Downtown Neighborhood Association on the selection of new trash cans, ultimately choosing a product that has the option to display local artwork on the side of the can.

The Board approved funds not-to-exceed $70,000 for the purchase and deployment of new trash cans on South Division.

Acrisure Amphitheater Resolution and Memorandum of Understanding

The Board approved a resolution and memorandum of understanding with the City of Grand Rapids to formalize the process for distribution of bond proceeds to support the construction of the Acrisure Amphitheater.
